PATHEIN

PATHEIN is the capital of the delta region. This port is reached by road or by double deckers through the complex Ayeyarwady river delta region. The landscapes are full of rice producers with crops such as sesame seeds, ground nuts, jute, maize, pulses, tobacco and chillies.

Chaung Thar Beach is located 40 km (25 miles) to the west of Pathein in Ayeyarwaddy division. It is the nearest ocean resort available to foreign tourists, being easily reached from Yangon in half a day by road. Chaung Thar is an attractive wide beach with a muddy delta look. Two small islands can be seen offshore. The crab dishes of Chaung-Thar Beach are delicious and well-known. There are bungalow type hotels along the beach with modern facilities.

Ngwe Saung Beach Resort, opened in the year 2,000, is one of the loveliest and most pleasant beach resorts in Myanmar, located some 48 km (30 miles) from the town of Pathein. The area is on the Bay of Bengal and benefits from clear blue waters, white-crested waves, sandy beaches, unspoiled and pollution-free natural surroundings. It is indeed one of the best places to select for a holiday interlude of rest and relaxation.
