Dawei is a port of medium importance and a tropical seaside town 618 km (384 miles) south of Yangon. It is located in Tanintharyi Division. Most people in this region are fishermen.
Maungmagan is a seaside village 16 km (10 miles) from Dawei with a beautiful beach. Most of the villagers carry out fishing as a living tradition and the beach is thus alive when boats return after a night’s fishing.
The Myeik Archipelago is also situated on the southern Taninthayi Division. There are many lucrative tin mines, oil palm plantation, rubber plantation and evergreen forests to see. On the Andaman Sea, many valuable pearl breeding and fishing beds can be observed. Pearl Island is the source of high quality pearls and fishing is the traditional way of making a living. There are about 804 islands scattered across the blue sea along the Taninthayi Coast.
The Tha Htay Kyun Beach is where Andaman Club is located, across the Andaman Sea. Its coast is too rocky for swimming but you can visit the islands nearby to explore the underwater coral garden where nobody has ever been.
